OS X (Mac) Mail is receiving mail, but not sending

Posted on 09. Jan, 2010 by John in Technology

After changing (and changing back) my smtp settings in OS X Mail with 10.6 I suddenly could no longer send mail.

I confirmed and re-confirmed and confirmed again that all of the settings were correct.

THE FIX:

  1. Open Mail Preferences and go to accounts.
  2. Go to Edit SMTP Server List…
  3. Delete All items in this list.
  4. Back out of the preferences.
  5. Quit Mail and reopen it.
  6. Repeat these steps, but add your SMTP settings back.
  7. BE SURE that your newly added connection is selected under “Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)” under Accounts.
  8. Restart Mail and you should be all set.

Did this help you?
